Treatment of the pancreatic cancer

This disease can be treated with a surgical operation if it is not spread to other organs. Surgery continues to be an important part of the treatment. Unfortunately, most of the pancreatic cancers are already spread to other organs when diagnosed. This case concerns 80% of patients. The cancer have already involved the important and vital veins around and been spread to other organs. If the size of the tumor is reduced by medication or ray treatment, the patient is assessed again for surgery.

Radiotherapy

Strong radiation waves can kill cancer cells. Radiotherapy is performed for several days, weeks or months. It is used to reduce the size of cancer before surgery and to kill the remaining cancer cells after surgery.

Medical treatment (Chemotherapy)

Chemotherapy is used to kill cancer cells, to prevent spreading to the surrounding tissues and distant organs or kill them there if there is any. In general, it is applied in a way that multiple chemotherapy drugs are administered together. Different treatments are applied depending on the age and general health status of the patient and the stage of cancer.
